The esomeprazole + domperidone combination treats acid-related digestive disorders by tackling two issues at once: it reduces the production of stomach acid and speeds up gastrointestinal movement.
Esomeprazole –
- As a Proton Pump Inhibitor (PPI), it blocks the enzymes in your stomach wall that produce acid. This relieves heartburn, heals acid damage to the esophagus (erosive esophagitis), and prevents peptic ulcers
- Latest PPI; exhibits highest potency in acid inhibition than other PPIs
- Better Bio availability, thus offers improved efficacy in acid inhibition than omeprazole.
Domperidone –
- Allows food to pass through the digestive tract faster, stopping stomach contents from flowing backwards.
- Exhibits fewer side effects on CNS (owing to its limited passage across the blood – brain barrier) as compared with metoclopramide.
